TEAM OF CHOICE TO TAKE PART IN MANDELA CHALLENGE

Maritzburg United’s pre season preparations continue this week-end with the team being invited together with the likes of Amazulu, Nathi Lions and Free State Stars to participate in the Annual Mandela Cup that will be played at the S J Smith Stadium in Durban on Saturday the 18th July 2009.


Coach Igesund will have the chance to see his new-look side in competitive action

“This is a special occasion and United are honored to share in the celebration of an icon and the Father of our Nation, Nelson Mandela” said Club’s Brand Manager, Younus Kadodia

“Looking back at the history of this country and Madiba’s struggle for democracy is something that has inspired us all and resulted in gateways being opened. One of these gateways is sport and to celebrate Madiba’s Birthday with a football tournament is excellent” added Kadodia.

The Tournament kicks off with The Team of Choice playing Nathi Lions at 09h30am followed by the fixture between Amazulu and Free State Stars at 11h00am. The Losers final will be played at 14h00 with the Winners Final being Played at 15h30.

Entry is free and coach Gordon Igesund will be taking his full complement of players in a bid to sharpen the squad ahead of the new season.
