CHAIRMAN’S COLUMN

4 August 2009

Maritzburg United chairman Farook Kadodia
is counting down the days to the start
of the 2009/ 2010 season.

"We approach our first League on Friday the 7th August against SuperSport United with much enthusiasm and anxiety.

Our supporters will, after a longtime watch our season opener at our home ground in Pietermaritzburg. Our City will be well focused for this game as this will be screened live on Supersport Super Diski, together by FIFA’s international programme, Futbol Mundial.

Full acknowledgement to our management headed by Afzal Khan and Head Coach Gordon Igesund in assembling an exciting squad for the new season.

Without a title sponsor, it was always going to be difficult to fulfill the wish list of our Head Coach. I take this opportunity to welcome all new members of our Management, Technical Team and Players.

Many businesses are experiencing the effects of global recession. We appeal to the PSL and SAFA to ventilate various options where the business of Soccer Agents and Business Managers are regulated.

One has to question their contribution to their players or the financial enrichment from both club and player. With the number of quality players shrinking, Agents are raising the benchmark, only to maintain their annual profit.

Youth Development must no more be idle talk. Our Youth structures must continue to bear fruit. We will continue to headhunt our very own talent from our townships and extend our Academy.

Supporters are the kings of our team and no business can survive without their consumer support. It is you the supporters that will develop our brand and allow us to sustain football in the “City of Choice”.
