Let me start by congratulating Maritzburg United Management, The Technical team, players as well as the supporters for continuously making “The Team of Choice “ a sustainable brand over the last 5 years.

The 26 years of dedication and hard work is finally paying off slowly but surely, from the dark days of the now defunct Federation Professional League to the clear decisive promotion from the Mvela Golden League and from there The Team of Choice has certainly never looked back.

The latest sterling performances and players appetite to win shows that Gordon and his Technical team have put up a formidable team. This was evident in our fight back draws against Super sport & Wits, our win against Amazulu and Kaizer Chiefs as well as the fight we put despite the loss to Bloemfontein Celtics mid-week.

Our next game away to Ajax Cape Town will be officially the first one for me as the Media & Supporters Liaison Officer at the Team. At this point I though it’s appropriate to formally introduce myself.

My name is Zazi Nxele I am originally from Elandskop in the place called kwaMafunze under the chieftaincy of Chief Maviyo Ngcobo popularly known as the upper Edendale. I am a single father of 4, 3 sons Slindokuhle, Nkanyiso and Lwazi and 1 beautiful daughter Amahle, I am born between 6 brothers and 1 sister.

Educationally I have a strong psychology and educational background from University of Natal (now University of UKZN) and media and communication training from Technikon SA (now UNISA). I have worked for organisations including Hulamin, Department of Education, Department of Community safety & Liaison, The Witness, Isolezwe Newspaper (with which I am still a weekly columnist) and quite a few more.

I fell in love with football at an early stage around the mid-90, having played the School, University and local community soccer. My passion for the sport became more when I started freelancing as a sport journalist for a community newspaper and the rest is history.

Coming back to the team I must admit that Maritzburg United is a well managed team with a lot of professionalism and organisation within the team hierarchy and for me it is an honour to serve in an office of a team of such calibre.

On the current camp mood, it’s safe to say that we trying by all means possible to put our defeat against Bloemfontein Celtics behind us. We have learnt from our mistakes from that game and our sole priority now is to put up a fight against the high rising Ajax coming from a convincing win against Amazulu on Wednesday.

We are quite aware that the “Urban Warriors” game will be a testing one for us but the boys are more than hungry to redeem themselves.
We are hoping that once again the spirit of unison, dedication and hard work prevailed and we wish the boys and the technical well in Newlands Stadium and certainly looking forward into consolidating our position on the log table.

Next week I will be unfolding some of the plan I have regarding the teams Supporters Structure initiatives, do not forget to get yourselves club merchandise from the Teams Offices at Victoria Road, Pietermaritzburg in our quest to paint Pietermaritzburg BLUE!
Let the war continue........

Warm Regards
Zazi “Face-to-Face “Nxele.
