United aiming for first Arrows win

Recent history has seen Maritzburg unable to get the better of their Durban rivals Golden Arrows, something United aim to put right on Saturday.

The two sides meet in a KZN derby at the Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday afternoon in an Absa Premiership encounter. (15H30 kick off).

Both sides go onto this game on the back of 1-1 draws – United held Ajax in Cape Town, while Arrows dropped points at home to Santos.

The Team of Choice have been in good form this season, but have a major challenge on their hands as they look to change history – Maritzburg have failed to beat Abafana Bes’thende in six previous encounters, while their most recent league match, back in February, ended in a disastrous 5-2 loss for United.

According to ace Maritzburg striker Fadlu Davids, the Team of Choice plan to turn the tables on Saturday.

“We have never beaten Arrows and we will do what ever it takes to fix that,” he is reported as saying on the SuperSport website.

Maritzburg can certainly take heart from their draw with Ajax as they go into this game – in the first half especially against the Cape side, United played some excellent football and could perhaps have added a second goal or third if things had gone their way.

“We have being doing well; we just had a couple of hiccups against Celtic which dented our confidence for the game against Ajax. We have now put that all behind us and are ready for Arrows,” added Davids.

United are expected to full strength for the derby, the only exceptions being suspended goal keeper Brendon Wardle, while Peter Petersen is doubtful after having gone off injured in Cape Town.

However, Wardle’s understudy, Tashrique Goldman, put in a very satisfactory performance against Ajax.
