Igesund approaches Downs game with optimism

Maritzburg coach Gordon Igesund remains respectful of Sundowns’ star players, but feels his side can have the beating of the Pretoria outfit.

Igesund will lead his men into battle against his former employers at the Woodburn Stadium on Friday night.

The Team of Choice’s coach says he is satisfied with the way his charges have gelled as a unit thus far, in particular showing good fighting spirit on several occasions.

“I’m very pleased with the way my team has performed this season - in the only two game which we have lost, we have had to play with 10 men.

“I’m very happy with the way my team is playing and again we did superbly to come back against Arrows and get a draw,” said Igesund

“The spirit in the camp is fantastic and what I am looking for now is consistency – we have drawn a few games and we must look to win our home games now.

“I think on paper Sundowns have the best squad in the league, they have a fantastic team. Their coach is however still finding the best side and until now they have played well, but in patches.

“Sundowns will be under pressure to get results, but we also want to win badly; this game is not going to be easy for side,” Igesund told maritzburgunited.co.za.
