UNITED’S U15 DOMINATE SAFA REGIONAL SELECTIONS

Eleven of Maritzburg United U15 players have been selected to represent the Umgungundlovu Region in the SAFA Tournament that is scheduled for the 24 and 25 October 2009 in Durban.

The following players from the United outfit have been selected:

Wandile Colvelle, Mpilonhle Mkhize, Badile Shandu, Zamokuhle Ndlovu, Roberto Slatter, Tsebeletso Motjotji, Lungelo Msomi, Sphesihle Zondi, Morgan Dlamini, Tristen Wood and Sphesihle Ndlovu.

Coach Dumisani Hlope was full of praise for his charges and excited that 11 of his players are in the 18 man squad.

“Initially they played the region’s selected 11 in a friendly and thrashed them 6-2. It was then that the selectors revisited their selections and adjusted the team”, said Hlope.

“The lads have already wrapped the League for 2009 and are in the semi-finals of the cup. They have won 32 official games to date only losing one”, added Hlope

Head of Youth Development, Katz Naidoo congratulated the youngsters on the achievement as well as their performance to date.

“Coach Hlope needs to be saluted for the excellent work he has done and congratulations for being nominated as part of the Umgungundlovu Regional team’s coaching staff for the tournament”, said Katz.

He further added that the foundation that was initiated in the U13 stage, has paid off.

" Most of these players have graduated from the U13 squad. It shows the principle of continunity reaps rewards for the players."
