It's been unpredictable!

Last weekend saw the completion of the first round of the 2009/2010 PSL action, it is quite difficult to say whether the 1ST half season wrap up has painted an indication of what might be the end of the season outcome.
The first round has been highly unpredictable with a thin line between the top, middle and the bottom of the Premiership standings with narrow points margins from one team to the other.
The first round of the strategically shortened season has been characterised by shocking scores, unexpected outcomes and without doubt an abundance of goals galore. The fact that the over 250 goals has been scored is evident that they is fierce competition and the teams are taking the league competition to the next level.
As much as most people slam some of the big clubs’ lukewarm performances, personally I think the so called average or smaller team are not taking the fight lying down hence the results are highly unpredictable - much to the dismay of soccer results stakes punters.
In one of my recent conversation with our head coach Gordon Igesund, he agreed that with the current proceedings in the PSL no team can be ruled as favourites to win the league nor as candidates for relegation, he cited lean points difference between the teams as a key component for his uncertainty of the league outcome at the end of the season.
Maritzburg United is sitting in position 12 on the log with 16 points, 14 points away from the log leaders Supersport United and four points away from Wits who seal the top eight position. On the other hand we are 7 points above the last team on the log Jomo Cosmos and that on its own shows clearly that the present cannot determine the near future or the end of the season outcome.
We have played most of the bigger teams away from home with which we managed to hold them and beat one, we’ve played the likes of Ajax, Swallows, Pirates, Chief, Arrows, Wits and Platinum Stars and if we maintain our technical vision not to lose at home, we are likely to achieve more than what we set for ourselves at the beginning of this season.
As we approach the second round of the league, I should commend Gordon Igesund and his technical team for putting together a formidable team, despite having the smallest squad in the league and limited resources as we remain unsponsored.
I know for a fact that we haven’t had the best of home performances we may have desired and we have lost by big margins far too often, I am still convinced that we have worked hard in rectifying those areas, this has been evident when we defended well against Orlando Pirates but unfortunately lost five key players for the Santos defeat.
I sincerely hope the spirit of oneness and unison will prevail once again in the approach of the second round and I wish to ensure our fans that at no point does the team aim to disappoint them and would also thank them for the support they have shown us in the last 7 games at home and we are looking forward to their even more support when we host our remaining eight games.
Maritzburg united Football Club is ................YOUR TEAM.....MY TEAM AND OUR CHOICE.
Maritzburg United wishes all our supporters and our development players who are writing their matric exams the best of luck and the abundance of success.
