"As the dust has settled over his departure, I would like to wish our ex-Coach Gordon Igesund, all the best in his new job.
It is important however, that I correct certain reports pertaining to Igesund’s “Resignation” at his job here at Maritzburg United.
Firstly there was definitely no interference in Gordon’s job from either the CEO or myself, instead we went out of our way to fully support the coach after the club survived relegation on the last day of last season.
At the beginning of this current campaign, the club, in the presence of Igesund and his agent, ventilated a performance improvement programme, this after the club honoured its obligation in its fixed term contract with the coach, a contract which can be seen as a financial insurance.
A host of Dodgy substitutions in the games against Bloemfontein Celtic and Free State Stars saw the club lose 5 key points at Woodburn and then the drubbing in Cape Town against Santos…
Eventually we needed to throw down the gauntlet and take action and the board of directors showed good faith in reaching a settlement with the coach. Can the same be said of the Coach?
We were not looking forward to be tortured for yet another season. The grief felt by our supporters in the drubbings from Celtic and Sundowns was totally not the order.
It is with great pain, yet pleasure that I put closure on the “Igesund Resignation”
