At a press conference held on 26th January 2010, Members of the media together with invited guests were informed of the official opening of the newly revamped Harry Gwala Stadium.

The Stadium, with a completely new Main Grand Stand, and seating facilities for 11 000 people is finally ready and will officially open on Saturday 6th February 2010, when the “Team of Choice” host fellow KZN rivals Lamontville Golden Arrows in a KZN derby.
The Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs in conjunction with the uMgungundlovu District and Msunduzi Municipality have planned a host of activities for the day including entertainment by popular musicians, a celebrity football match between Government officials and a Maritzburg legends team followed by the official unveiling and opening of the stadium prior to the kick off at 20h15.
Speaking at the press conference , Chairman of Maritzburg United, Mr. Farook Kadodia said , “It is with great excitement that we await the 06 February when we as Maritzburg United Football Club make our contribution in the official opening of this newly revamped 11 000 seater stadium when we host Lamontville Golden Arrows in a KwaZulu Natal Derby, Its is without a shadow of doubt that the City of Choice’s Soccer loving fraternity will respond in their thousands to make the opening of the stadium a Gala spectacle.

The comfortable seating together with new floodlights will create an atmosphere to our own “theatre of dreams” .Together with the support of her worship Mayor Zanele Hlatswayo and her Exco committee , We will continue Promoting the City of Choice via Premier Soccer League games at the Harry Gwala Stadium and do our best to leave the perfect legacy for Comrade Harry Gwala”.
