AN HISTORICAL EVENING - The Chairman 23 February 2010 Our victory over Golden Arrows on the 6th was very special as it was for the first time in our history that we have taken three points from them and secondly the result was significant and befitting for the occasion-the official opening of The Harry Gwala Stadium.

"It was indeed a historical evening for all communities of the City.

The atmosphere was electrifying. On behalf of the Directors I must place on record our deepest gratitude to the Umgungundlovu Districts and associated Municipalities for ensuring an exciting and memorable opening that I am sure that Comrade Harry Gwala would have been proud of.

For many the sight of the revamped Harry Gwala Stadium was most welcome, with its table top pitch and the flood lighting amongst the best in Africa. I am pleased that we now have a stadium that is on par with stadiums around the country and the “People of Choice” can enjoy supporting their “Team of Choice” in our very own “theatre of dreams”.

I also want to make note of the way we went about associating ourselves with the official opening, our behavior was commendable and exemplary.

Above all, your support made the difference and your continuous loudness spurred the Team to our famous result.

I am sure that all MEC’s present must have felt justified in supporting Maritzburg United F.C. in its endeavors to bring PSL football to the “City of Choice” for both business and the Umgungundlovu communities."
