1. Who you are: where do you live, what do you do, etc?
Hi, My name is Phathokuhle Mtambo from Ashdown here in Maritzburg. I’ve been living here my whole life, I’m 23. I am currently in my 2nd year doing National diploma in Management at Durban University of Technology.
2. How long have you supported the club?
Been supporting United from when it was promoted to the 1st division.
Watched most of their home games ever since. Even though I don’t have a car I make sure that I don’t miss a single game.
3. Early memories of the club / any special memories or games that stand out?
The special moment for me was in 2008 when the team won against the 1st divisions big money spenders FCAK at Harry Gwala Stadium.
Peter Peterson put up his best performance on that day. Also super fast Zimba is one of my all time favourite players after Fadlu Davids.
Another game that stand out was when they beat Soweto giants Chiefs 2-1 last season, that moment proved that there aren’t no small teams anymore in the PSL.
4. Who are your current favourites Maritzburg players?
My current favourite player is Madondo not only for the fact that he is the home boy but I think he is one of the best young players in the PSL. I would like to see him maintain his performance for the coming seasons and perhaps he can get place in for the World Cup in 2014.
5. Favourite international players?
My favourite international player has to be Liverpool skipper Steven Gerard. I like his attitude, discipline and leadership in every game.
6. If you could buy any two international players for United, who would they be?
One player I would get for United is Nemanja Vidic of Manchester United and Didier Drogba of Chelsea. Vidic would re-enforce the defence and Drogba has proven to be the best striker not only in Africa but internationally.
7. What are your hopes for the team this season?
I would really like to see United organising the defence and getting at least one prolific striker and get to the top 8.
