“We are all well aware that the fringe players who are not getting a run in the competitive matches also need game time to ensure that they continue to progress and make the necessary improvements in their games” said Operations Manager, Quintin Jettoo
“The KZN reserve league give the Clubs this opportunity and also allows the players from the Vodacom Teams and the Academy teams the opportunity to play against stronger opposition hence helping in their development and giving them the exposure to be noticed by the Professional teams” added Jettoo
The League is in its fourth round of fixtures and already each participating club has seen the benifits of being involved in this type of exercise.
This weekend being a FIFA one allowed the clubs to play two matches on Saturday and Monday.
Maritzburg United played against African Wanderers from the Vodacom League on Saturday and were 1-0 victors thanks to a goal from new Nigerian striker Olukolade Jacob Abobade.
Head coach, Ian Palmer was exicited that he was able to give Jacob a run and try to get him match fit ahead of the Clash against Supersport United on Friday 14/10/2011 at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium.
On Monday, the Team of Choice played against the Thekwini Academy and were 3-0 victors with some of the teams young and exciting players that are on the fringes of first team selection showing character by displaying a solid performance with Renaldo Donnelly scoring a brace and Sheldon Lawrence getting the third goal.
