Santos nearly scored within the first minute when Shu-aib Walters failed to clear the ball off the head of Eleazar Rodgers – the ball bobbled in the box before Peter Petersen somewhat tentatively put it out of play, almost sticking the ball in his own net.
Then at the other end there was also nearly an own goal as Pere Ariweriyai deflected a cross just wide.
Ten minutes later Diyo Sibisi failed to find the target after Tshepo Motsonoeng’s weak clearance.
The next chance fell the way of Santos as Jurie Basie picked out Tawonga Chimodzi 12-yards out from goal, but he sent a header wide.
Six minutes before the break the Peoples’ Team were again extremely close to scoring as Erwin Isaacs’ cross was nearly put into his own net by Mor Diouf, with Shu-aib Walters doing well to scramble the ball off the line.
The second half continued in the same vein as the first with neither side finding much impact in and around the opposition box.
The only half chance that arrived in the opening stages saw Diouf heading over the bar for the Team of Choice.
With 20 minutes to go Tyren Arendse had half a chance to score from an Isaacs cross, but was wayward with his header
Michael Morton then came close to getting on the end of a Calvin Sosibo cross while at the other end Walters just reached the ball ahead of a sliding Vuyisile Wana.
Sosibo could have scored when Morton played him in, but his shot was parried to safety by Motsoeneng.
Finally the goal came in the 85 th minute when Byrone Hendricks flicked on Felix Obada’s cross towards Diyo Sibisi, who scored from close range.
But from the restart the Cape side levelled the game when Isaacs nailed a header.
And then Santos stole the three points in he final minute of the game as Peter Petersen slid a cross into his own goal.
