Madondo has risen through the ranks alongside the likes of Jabulani Ncubeni and more recently Renaldo Donnelly to make the successful transition from the Maritzburg United juniors ranks to the first team.
He has become a regular first team player in the PSL for the last two to three seasons, where his command and control of the midfield have lead to junior national team call-ups on a regular basis.
Now ‘Chillies’ is hoping he can help the country to qualify for its first Olympic Games soccer tournament since the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.
Amaglug-glug play their first match against Ivory Coast on November 27; then they play Gabon on November 30 with the last group stage match being against Egypt on December 3.
“It’s a huge occasion and responsibility for us, we are determined to make sure South Africa goes to the Olympics,” Madondo told the Maritzburg website.
“It is going to be difficult though – every country there has the same ambitions as us and there are some top teams we will be up against, but we believe we can make the country proud.”
“I’m just going there to give it my best shot, to do the best I can. I’m happy with my form at the moment although I’m always looking to improve.
“It’s the chance to make the country proud. And I’m also representing Maritzburg – I never forget where I come from and I’m grateful to the club for developing me as a player.”
