The reasons for cancelling his contract are outlined in the points below;
- Upon his return from the Christmas Break, (07-01-2012) Mr Palmer requested leave from the 15th-29th of January to attend a coaching course to which the club duly obliged.
- The Club was taken by surprise On Tuesday night, (10-01-2012), when Mr Palmer sent an e-mail to the Chairman requesting financial assistance for the course and an attached correspondence from SAFA outlining a comprehensive programme of the phases of the course with no request for further time off.
- The Chairman then met with Mr Palmer on Wednesday morning, (11-01-2012) to ventilate this matter further as his employment would now become part time as he would be away from work for a total of 76 days until the end of the season. The Chairman also expressed the clubs concerns of not having a Head Coach for the time that he is away.
- The club stressed the importance of Mr Palmer reviewing his decision to attend the same course at a later date whereby not affecting the Club’s programme. Mr Palmer however insisted that he has to attend this course now.
- The club views Mr Palmers conduct as a repudiation of his contract of employment. The Club have made every effort to prevail upon Mr Palmer not to act in this fashion but rather to comply with the contract but those efforts have been treated with a distinct lack of respect or regard for the requirements of professional football. Consequently the club had no option but to accept the repudiation and cancel the contract.
The Club will endeavour to start the process of identifying a new Head Coach to replace Mr Palmer.
