“I don’t look back as far as last season is concerned, while we did fairly well, its now a new season with new players involved.
“The important thing now is to give ourselves time to be properly prepared, to have the right levels of fitness and commitment and for the players to work as a unit. By the time our first game arrives, away against Tuks, we must ensure that we are 100 percent prepared.
“For different reasons, some players have left and others were allowed to go because they were not giving us what we had expected. Some players are of the opinion that a change of environment will see them doing better, and that is why some players move on.
“I’m happy with the players we have brought in now, we have some good depth. Especially up front, where we became too reliant on Cuthbert Majila – we need more options and can’t depend just on one player.
“There is still one area where there remains a question mark – at left back, which is no secret. At times last season we had to play right-sided players such as Rheece Evans and Ryan de Jongh. We’ve looked at some options already, but we are not going to sign anyone yet as we want to be sure we get the right player.
“We have friendly games coming up every day this week, where I will give as many players as possible the chance to get 90 minutes. Its important for the players to start understanding what is required of them, what jobs they are required to do in their specific positions.
“Players will be given their mandates, and now is the time for the player to show himself, to make his claim for a starting position.”
Upcoming Friendly Games:
1. Supersport United
2. Moroka Swallows
3. Wits University
4. FC AK
Maritzburg will be playing in the Premiers Cup involving all the KZN teams (Maritzburg United, Amazulu, Arrows and Thanda) on the 29 July 2012.
