Middendorp: we gave as good as we got
Maritzburg United coach Ernst Middendorp was happy with the spirit and the performance of his side in their 1-1 draw with Chiefs on Friday.

The Team of Choice came from a goal down to equalise in the dying seconds of the game, thanks to Terrance Mandaza’s well-taken header.

"Mandaza is very good in the air, and it was good to see him get in the goals," Middendorp told reporters after the match.

"It was because he attacked the ball that he could score. So it's not always about the delivery, it's about players being on the end of it and it was nice to see him do that."

The United coach was overall pleased with the way his men applied themselves against the league’s top side.

"I thought we did (deserve to get the point out of the game)," The German-born mentor said after the game.

"Some of the football we played was great and coming up against a side that is top of the log, I thought we gave as good as we got.

“It’s good to see the fighting spirit in the team. The boys have proven that they want it more and I’m happy for them,” said Middendorp.

“The most important thing right now is for the team to continue with this type of form. All these results will mean nothing if we find ourselves in the bottom half come end of the season. It’s important that we build from this and maintain.”
