Komphela pleased with finishing prowess
24 October 2014

Maritzburg United coach Steve Komphela was thrilled to see his side showing their clinical side of the game in the 4-1 win over SuperSport United.

Heading into Wednesday’s match in Pretoria, Maritzburg had only once previously beaten SuperSport.

And yet despite being up against a team that had won four straight games under Gordon Igesund, the Team of Choice were able to secure a famous 4-1 win, thanks to goals from Terrance Mandaza (2), Mondli Cele and Mohammed Anas.

“I would have never imagined we would get this score-line. I would have bet R100 000 that there was no way before the match,” Komphela said.

“We survived a scare to open the match. They were coming at us from all angles. But we are one of the highest scoring teams in the league. We have been working a lot on final-third entries and finishing. If teams park the bus we must find a way of penetrating regardless.”

The victory took the Team of Choice up to third spot on the table, and Komphela reveals there is no time for the players to rest on their laurels.

“In every group of five matches we try to get 10 points. Our target is 60 points by the end of the season, which is a championship worthy total."
