Jappie last played for Free State Stars in the Absa Premiership, providing the Bethlehem-based side with a creative, skilful and speedy outlet on the flanks.
The 24-year-old also featured for Golden Arrows in the top flight, and for Milano United in the National First Division.
His youth development was spent at Ajax Cape Town, Old Mutual Football Academy and Bidvest Wits.
Known for his ability to beat defenders and put quality balls into the box, Martizburg believe they can provide the perfect platform for a player looking to move into the prime of his career in the next couple of years.
“Yusuf Jappie has signed a two year deal with an option for a further year,” club chairman Farook Kadodia confirmed.
“There is no doubt that Yusuf is a quality player, with a lot of potential. The coach believes Yusuf is a player he can work with and help to fully realise that potential.
“He has an excellent left foot, he has plenty of pace, and is a versatile player who can operate on the left or right. We believe he'll add great options in attack and we welcome Yusuf to Pietermaritzburg and the Team of Choice family.”
United have also signed Kwanda Mngonyama, Judas Moseamedi and Phumalani Ntshangase in the transfer window, and are currently running the rule over a handful of trialists.
