Mabaso: Maritzburg move perfect for me
08 September 2014

Maritzburg United’s on loan defender Abel Mabaso is pleased to have been able to help the Team of Choice to a good start so far this season.

Mabaso is on the books of Mamelodi Sundowns, but sent last season on loan at MP Black Aces, where he played an important role in what was a good season for the Mpumalanga-based side.

The 23-year-old has settled in quickly to Steve Komphela’s side, and has played in every minute of Maritzburg’s last four games.

“My move down to Maritzburg was purely about football growth. I see myself as a young upcoming player who wants to learn and grow. I looked at the technical team, and I believed that Maritzburg was the right place for me to further my career and improve myself as a player. Moving back to KZN, where my family is, was purely a bonus for me,” Mabaso told maritzburgunited.co.za.

“My main aim is to help make the people of Pietermaritzburg and the surrounding areas proud of this team. There is a buzz around the club and the support we are getting has been fantastic. There has been a wonderful atmosphere at the Harry Gwala Stadium for our home games, its inspiring for the players, and we want to do everything we can to play good football, to get positive results so that people keep coming down in their numbers.

“Its been a good start, and if we make sure that the hunger remains, that we continue to have to the right attitude, then we can go on to have a good season. This team has the potential for silverware, if we play together for one common goal, if we’re there for each other as teammates and respect and support each other, if we make the necessary sacrifices, we can definitely achieve things this season,” he added.
