Komphela praises United resilience
20 October 2014

Maritzburg United coach Steve Komphela was happy with the way that his side held Platinum Stars at bay in the 3-1 win on the weekend.

The Team of Choice moved to eighth spot on the Absa Premiership table after beating Dikwena at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday.

Komphela however admits that the match was closer than the score-line suggests.

“If there has to be matches of this calibre, most of us are going to suffer a heart attack. They threw everything at us and there was a stage when I felt 'can we withstand the pressure?’ But we did,” he said after the game.

"I could say we passed the test of resilience, as at 2-0 up, we were not comfortable. We dominated the beginning of the match, we scored those two goals, deservedly so, and after that we went backwards.

“In the second half I thought we would up the gears but we couldn't and they pinned us in our own box. They really wanted the result and I think the 3-1 score-line and the penalty (Kurt Lentjies) was a killer that gave us the relief. I have it be honest, it was not a true reflection of the game as we had to dig deep."
