IN TOUCH WITH: POGISO SANOKA

7 April 2020

With the Premier Soccer League (PSL) currently suspended due to the coronavirus, or Covid-19, outbreak, all players and officials are forced to stay at home.

So what are they doing to keep busy during the 21-day lockdown? How are they keeping fit and who are they keeping in touch with?

It is the second week of the lockdown in South Africa and we kick-off today with Maritzburg United right-back Pogiso Sanoka, who has been a rock in the Team of Choice's defence for the past five seasons.

Sanoka has been at Maritzburg since 2015 after signing from Second Division side Orbit College FC and he is our second longest serving player; only Bandile Shandu has been with the club for longer.

The Maritzburg media team caught up with the 27-year-old Pogiso to find out how he's handling this unique break, one that has come with just under a quarter of the 2019/20 season remaining.

MUFC: Where are you spending the lockdown?
PS (Pogiso Sanoka): At home, in Schweizer Reneke.

MUFC: How are you keeping busy?
PS: I’m exercising indoors to keep myself fit.

MUFC: How often do you speak to your teammates/ coach?
PS: Almost every day.

MUFC:Who is the person you are most in contact with during the lockdown and how do you guys chat?
PS: I’m in contact with Burger van der Merwe (our physio), regarding the issue of the program they sending us daily. I think it’s really helpful in terms of keeping fit.

MUFC:Have you ever imagined life without football? And what would you have done for a career had you not been a footballer?
PS: Well I have not yet thought about it because I call football my life.

MUFC:Are there any games/ movies/ series/ books that you can recommend?
PS: I spend most of my time on series and reality TV shows.

MUFC: Looking at the season so far, which were the most impressive results for the team?
PS: I think reaching a second final (the Telkom Knockout) in a space of two seasons was really a huge compliment for us.

MUFC: In which match do you feel you played your best?
PS: I think the match that will forever be in my mind is the one against Polokwane City (a 1-0 win) at home, in which I brought my A game and my confidence was really on a high note.

MUFC: What was the best goal scored by Maritzburg United FC this season?
PS: I think it is the one we scored against Polokwane (by Daylon Claasen in that same game), I mean everything was perfect it was all about the team collectively.
