TEAM OF CHOICE LOSE TO GALAXY

20 January 2021

It was a disappointing Wednesday evening for Maritzburg United as we went down 3-0 to TS Galaxy in a DStv Premiership encounter at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

Having made a bright start to the game, Maritzburg suffered a 25th minute setback when Wayde Lekay put the visitors ahead with a near-post shot following a Lindokuhle Mbatha delivery.

While Maritzburg fought for a way back into the game, the next clear chance fell to Galaxy, but a good save by Jethren Barr kept out a Mxolisi Macuphu effort.

Three minutes after the break though Barr was beaten by Mbatha, following an assist from Macuphu.

At the other end of the park, it took a sharp save from Galaxy keeper Marlon Heugh to keep out a stinging 62nd minute effort from Judas Moseamedi as United rallied for a way back in to the game.

Riyaaz Ismail also went close for Maritzburg with a long range shot in the 78th minute.

But United’s fate was sealed six minutes later when Felix Badhenhorst added a third goal for the Rockets.

Maritzburg return to the Harry Gwala on Saturday to take on Orlando Pirates in a DStv Premiership fixture.
