Maritzburg United are proud to announce the promotion of three players - Asanda Buthelezi, Muzomuhle Ngwane, Phiwayinkosi Zuma - from the club's reserve side (the Multichoice Diski Challenge league) to the first team.

The trio have caught the eye in the MDC and have now been rewarded by being handed professional contracts with the Team of Choice.

All three youngsters are from KwaZulu-Natal; Buthelezi hails from Newcastle while Zuma and Ngwane are from right here in the City of Choice, Pietermaritzburg.

Ngwane is a central defender while Buthelezi and Zuma operate in midfield.

While the three may be new to the pro ranks, their football journey started many years ago as young boys hoping to emulate and play alongside their idols in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

"I'm happy to get my chance to play with the senior players," says Buthelezi. "Since I was young I have been working hard for this opportunity and finally its come and I'm ready to grab it with both hands."

Playing with and against some of the PSL's best and most experienced players promises to be a steep learning curve, and Ngwane says he is keen to absorb it all.

"I feel so happy to join the first team, I've been waiting for this chance and I will take this opportunity and give my best. I want to gain from the more experienced players," the defender said.

Zuma hopes he can help the Team of Choice achieve some of our goals and is ready to give his all.

"I'm excited, happy to join the team," he said. "I've been waiting for this opportunity. My goal is to push harder and help the team to win cups and build on the position in the DStv Premiership."
