MARITZBURG FORCED TO SETTLE FOR STELLIES POINT
12 December 2021

Maritzburg United added another point to their tally after a hard-fought 0-0 draw in Sunday's DStv Premiership encounter against Stellenbosch FC at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

In a game of few chances, home keeper Marcel Engelhardt did have a couple of important saves to make in the second half.

The visitors managed to find the net in the second stanza, but Junior Mendieta's effort was ruled off-sides.

United also squandered some chances to score on the day, much to the disappointment of head coach Ernst Middendorp.

"We should have made three points today. We had opportunities, we should have taken some chances to score," he said.

"The point was not enough - despite knowing it's always very difficult to unlock Stellenbosch’s defence.

"From the structure side I think okay, but in the end the final product again was not taken."

The draw was Maritzburg's fourth in the last five DStv Premiership fixtures while the point earned leaves the Team of Choice in 12th spot on the standings.

Next up is a home match against Chippa United on Sunday 19 December.

Starting XI: Engelhardt, Claasen, Ndengane, Ritchie, Human, Ntshangase, Skelem, Graham, Kewuti, Hlongwane and Theron.

Subs: Petersen, McDonald, Daniels, Soukouna, Dlamuka, Ismail, Cele and Bhengu.
