HIGHLANDS STRIKE LATE TO DENY MARITZBURG VICTORY

M
aritzburg United are looking to put some distance between themselves and the chasing top eight pack when they take on Highlands Park at the Dobsonville Stadium.

HIGHLANDS STRIKE LATE TO DENY MARITZBURG VICTORY

Maritzburg United looked on course for their first win after the resumption of the league, only for a late goal to deny them maximum points against Highlands Park.

Instead, the Team of Choice had to settle for a 1-1 draw with the Lions of the North in Saturday's Absa Premiership encounter at the Dobsonville Stadium.

The draw was a third consecutive stalemate for Eric Tinkler's charges following a 2-2 result against Mamelodi Sundowns and a goal-less draw against Bidvest Wits.

Maritzburg's goal against Highlands came early on - with just 13 minutes played Pogiso Sanoka registered a rare goal after he got on the end of a Bandile Shandu cross.

The Team of Choice were able to hold the advantage for over 75 minutes. But just when victory was in sight, Rodney Ramagalela struck in the 87th minute to earn the Gauteng side a share of the spoils.

The point earned takes Maritzburg to 42 from 28 matches and keeps them in sixth spot.

United now turn their attention to Wednesday evening's league clash with Orlando Pirates at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria.
